A House in the Sky: A Memoir - Amanda Lindhout

Inna - "Took me through a range of emotions... got totally soaked into it". "I questioned the inclusion of Islam... made me look at religion in a different way". I rate it a 4 out 5.

Robyn - "I finished it entirely today... I crashed into it over the last few days". "I was very frustrated with Amanda but I grew to respect her. The book was not just about her capture, but it was everything leading up to it". I rate it a 3 out of 5.

Lacey - "The book gave me nightmares". "The overall experience was that I was brought into the book". "I really liked how descriptive it was". I rate it a 3 out of 5.

Heather - "I could really understand the background she came from, in a personal way". "It is interesting that someone could hate her, because I feel like I can really relate to her in a personal way". "This whole book I was tripping out... the places she was talking about, I know". I rate it 5 out of 5.

Amy - "I have to agree... I hated her at the beginning". "I feel like she might of had some sort of narcissistic disorder... she was so detached... was that a survival mechanism?" "I have never experienced the kind of loneliness that she talk about". "Maybe not a mental illness, but she did not make wise decisions". "This is a really silly girl, who made some really silly decisions, and it put her family through hell". "I think her survival was epic...I have never been captivated like this before". I rate it 4.25 out of 5.

Laura - "This is not a stagnant read...it provokes a lot of emotions and thoughts". "I enjoyed the beginning but when she was captured it felt very traumatic". "I feel like she compared her situation with all of Somalia but she is just one person there. What voice is coming through in this book?""I think it was sad that men were proved as the perpetrators". I rate it 2 out of 5.

Danielle - "She lived dangerously and didn't expect any consequences". "Throughout the book she proved herself to be such a good character". "I didn't like that between authors I didn't know who was writing it. She wanted to be a journalist so bad, but she didn't even write the book". "She is a good person". I rate it 4.5 out of 5.

Terra -  "I saw her as a fictional character. She went all over the world and didn't think about it. I envy her for that". "It felt very real for me". "I found the end very anticlimactic. I was looking for more followup". I rate it 4 out of 5.

Lauren - "This book did not traumatize me, no nightmares". "Her descriptions of the most intense moments were awesome". "We cannot fathom what was taken away from her". "If it is all true, I think she was smart. She went through an incredibly traumatic situation". I rate it 4 out of 5.

Nicole - "I used the first chapter as a short story, it is a great description of the Canadian experience.  I read a lot about her before I read the book.  I spent a thought of time thinking about her choices.  There are so many instances from my travels I could have made terrible decisions and I am no better than her for making those choices.  She is not a worse person for making those decisions.  the part that stood out to me the most is her resilience because i work with people for their resilience.  To have the mental capacity in that state to go somewhere to rest in your mind.  That is impressive". I rate it 5 out of 5.

Karen - "I now feel very connected to her. I have taken a lot of risks and I don't think the world would be the way it is if we didn't take risks". "I would rather be in pain through experience than not experiencing anything at all". "I don't think that anybody needs to read it". I rate it a 3.5 out of 5.
